Today, I'm taking you behind the scenes of how I shoot and edit product photos for my Etsy shop. If you've ever wondered how to get create easy eye-catching product photos to list online, stick around because I'm about to spill all my secrets. Watch the video above, or read the post below!

Setting Up the Shoot

I start by setting up my shooting space, which today happens to be near a big window to catch that lovely natural light. But before I dive in with my DSLR, I use my phone to document the process. The quality might not be as crisp, but hey, it's all about making do with what you've got, right?

For my backdrop, I opt for a textured linen dress in my brand's signature blush colour. It adds a nice touch and complements the products well. Plus, it's a great way to recycle some of my own clothing for the shoot.

The Shoot Begins

Carley arranges the scrunchies with her left hand while holding a DSLR camera with her right, ready to take photos.

Now, it's all about arranging those scrunchies and headbands just right. I like to experiment with different groupings and compositions until I find the perfect balance. Oh, and fun fact: I've got this cardboard cutout with my face on it (long story), which doubles as a reflector to bounce light onto the products. It's a quirky setup, but it gets the job done!

Dealing with the Details

Fur and dust are a constant battle, especially with pets around. That's where lint rollers come to the rescue! A quick once-over ensures my products are picture-perfect.

To the Computer

Carley points to the screen of her laptop with her pinky finger, demonstrating how she uses Lightroom to edit her photos. On the screen is a photo of 3 scrunchies.

With the shoot wrapped up, it's time to work some magic in Lightroom. I'm no editing pro, but a few tweaks here and there can make a world of difference. From adjusting exposure to fine-tuning colours, it's all about enhancing those product shots.

Listing on Etsy

Once the photos are edited to my liking, it's time to update my Etsy listings. I duplicate an existing listing, swap out the photos, and voila! A fresh new product listing is born.

Final Thoughts

And there you have it, folks! Shooting and editing product photos for Etsy is equal parts art and science. While having fancy equipment helps, it's creativity and resourcefulness that truly shine through. So whether you're shooting with a DSLR or your trusty smartphone, remember: practice makes perfect!

Thanks for joining me today, until next time, happy shooting!
